Deep East Texas Council of Governments accepting rental assistance lottery applications

The Deep East Texas Council of Governments will accept pre-applications for its Rental Assistance Waitlist Lottery. This lottery determines which individuals and families are eligible for rental assistance with Section 8 housing.

From 8:00 a.m. on November 1 and until 11:59 p.m. on December 31, the DETCOG Regional Housing Authority will be accepting housing assistance pre-applications online at waitlistcheck.com/tx2875.

The Housing Authority will not accept any request at the office, nor any request sent by fax or mail. This is an online application process only.


DETCOG will be accepting 1,500 pre-applicants, and applicants can verify their place on the waitlist starting February 14 by visiting waitlistcheck.com. The following are preferences for DETCOG:

Families who live and work in the DETCOG Regional Housing Authority service area which includes the following counties: Angelina, Hardin, Houston, Jasper, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shellby, Trinity and Tyler. Houston County does not include Houston or any part of Harris County. Tyler County does not include Tyler or any part of Smith County;

Veterans or families of veterans;

Victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking; and

Families where the head of the family or co-head of the family or the spouse is disabled.

There is no charge to apply, and a credit report is not required to apply.

Earlier this year, Jasper County left DETCOG to become a member of the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission. But this organization does not have any housing assistance program. Jasper County remains within the service area of ​​the DETCOG Regional Housing Authority.
