Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach Program Accepting Applications for Host Sites

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach Program has opened host site application for the 2022-2023 program year. Government, faith-based, nonprofit, or community organizations that focus on youth programs are encouraged to apply. Online applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on June 10.

The Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach Program is a unique partnership between AmeriCorps and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development. The program places AmeriCorps service members in host organizations across the state. AmeriCorps service members build capacity, helping their host organization bring a new youth program to their community or bring current programs to new youth audiences.

Members of the Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach spearhead community and organizational efforts to provide youth with positive developmental experiences through youth-adult partnerships and research-based experiences. The members’ work plan can focus on directing and organizing the project, developing volunteers, building local capacity, and direct service.

In return for their service, AmeriCorps members develop skills that build strong resumes, earn a monthly living allowance, and receive an after-service scholarship to fund higher education or pay student loans. qualified. Members serving full-time terms may apply for insurance and child care subsidies.

“We know that educational programs for youth have declined significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Celine Beggs, AmeriCorps 4-H Program Director. “Since September 2021, AmeriCorps 4-H members have delivered more than 85 programs across the state of Iowa. Our members have helped our host organization partners reach a wider youth audience and provide innovative avenues for youth education.

Host sites that are accepted into the Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach program are expected to invest in the partnership by providing non-federal cash consideration. The contribution is used to cover a portion of the total cost of the grant and the cost of the member serving at a site.

The Iowa AmeriCorps 4-H Outreach Program is a $1.4 million grant, funded by AmeriCorps, Volunteer Iowa, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and private matching funds.
