Multiple Hours | SAMSA will accept new bunker license applications beginning April 1, 2022

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) announced on Tuesday February 1 that it plans to lift its moratorium on applications for bunker operating licenses at Algoa Bay effective April 1, 2022.

“The moratorium was put in place on August 22, 2019 pending the finalization of a retention capacity and risk assessment study,” he said.

“The lifting follows the last session of the Bunkering Stakeholder Session held in December 2021 which decided that the moratorium should be lifted. The waiver means that potential new entrants can now submit their applications from February 1, 2022.”

SAMSA has issued Marine Notice MN 01-22 (C+F+P) “The interim application process and requirements for conducting STS ship-to-ship transfers and bunkering operations outside of a porton its website for interested applicants.

“Only online applications will be accepted through the email address [email protected] All stakeholders who have submitted their applications in the past must re-apply through the online system,” it explains. -he.

“The online application process is a transitional arrangement pending the finalization of Bunker/Ship to Ship (STS) codes.”

SAMSA is hosting a special bunker stakeholder session on February 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. to provide further details.
