TPWD Accepting Hunting License Applications Drawn 2022-23

AUSTIN The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife announced Friday that the department’s raffle hunting license program is now accepting applications to shoot nearly 10,000 permits in 62 hunting categories.

Permits authorize trolling hunts on public and private lands throughout Texas. Among the offerings available through the online system are hunts for white-tailed deer, mule deer, pronghorn, turkey, alligator, dove and guided exotic species and the bighorn sheep.

“This season we will be raffling in 62 hunting categories,” said Kelly Edmiston, TPWD Public Hunt Program Coordinator, in the press release. “These designs include selections for U.S. Forest Service antlerless deer permits, adult and youth hunts, 18 e-postcard selections for hunters using the $48 Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH), and hunts conducted in 10 National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in Texas. .”
Applicants for e-postcard hunts and U.S. Forest Service antlerless deer permits must have a current APH permit to apply.

New areas included in this year’s Drawn Hunting Catalog include the Muleshoe NWR and Powderhorn State Park. Devil’s Sinkhole SNA, Lost Maples SP, Village Creek SP and Stephen F. Austin SP returned to the program this season. TPWD has also created two new NWR hunting categories, for Antlerless Deer and Alligator.

An interactive map shows all hunting opportunities drawn by category or area, and all applications, fee payments and permit issuance are processed electronically. To participate, applicants will need internet access, an email address and a credit or debit card. The client identification number on the applicant’s hunting or fishing license is the most efficient way to access the system.

Registration fees are $3 or $10 depending on the hunting category. Selected adult hunters may also be required to pay a special permit fee of $80 for regular hunts and $130 for extended hunts. Some categories, such as youth-only hunts, do not require an application or permit fee. Permits are open to resident and non-resident hunters.

The first application deadlines are in August. August 1 is the deadline for alligator, pronghorn and dove hunt categories on private land, and August 15 is the deadline for archery deer, exotic general and javelin. Application deadlines are the 1st and 15th of the month from August 1 to November 1. A full list of category deadlines is available online. Hunters can apply until 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the application deadline, and once the application is submitted, they can check the status of their drawing online at any time.
